What does a compression shirt do?
A compression shirt holds muscles snugly, wicks sweat off the skin and moves with the body without loose fabric. Athletes wear it under team jerseys and pads, as a base layer in cold weather, or on its own for gym training. Research on recovery and performance benefits is mixed, so Rockhint describes compression garments by fit and comfort, not medical effects.
Key features
Who orders custom compression shirts?
Football, rugby, ice hockey and American football teams (base layers under team uniforms and pads), MMA and grappling gyms, CrossFit boxes, cyclists and runners in cold weather, and activewear brands.
Sports: weight training, CrossFit, American football, ice hockey, rugby, football, basketball, running and cycling.
Which fabric is used for compression shirts?
| Fabric | Weight | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Polyester-spandex 85/15 | 180–200 GSM | Light compression, warm weather, sublimation |
| Polyester-spandex 80/20 | 200–240 GSM | Firmer compression, cold-weather base layer |
| Brushed polyester-spandex | 220–240 GSM | Winter base layer |
| Nylon-spandex | 200–230 GSM | Premium soft feel; not sublimatable |
Which printing method suits compression shirts?
Cut-and-sew sublimation is the best method for polyester-spandex compression: the design is printed into the fabric before cutting, so it stretches with the garment. Heat transfer and silicone logos suit small branding and nylon-spandex. Avoid standard screen print and embroidery, which crack or restrict stretch.
Construction and fit options
What sizes are available?
XS–5XL and youth. Compression fits are designed to be tight, so players between sizes should go up one. A size chart with chest and height is essential for this product; exact measurements can follow your own size chart for bulk orders. See the Size Guide.
What weather are compression shirts for?
They work year-round. In hot weather, wear a light 180 GSM version on its own or under a jersey. In cool and cold weather, a long-sleeve or brushed version is a base layer under training tops and jackets. Suitable indoors and outdoors.
How long does production take?
Sample in about 12–18 days, because stretch fabric and fit need testing; bulk production 3–4 weeks after approval. Custom fabric colours and many sizes add time.
MOQ, quality and packaging
MOQ 20 pieces, sizes mixed. Stretch recovery, seam strength and print cracking are checked against the approved sample; private-label packaging is available.
How to care for compression shirts
Wash cold inside out; no softener or bleach; hang dry, because heat damages spandex.
Frequently asked questions
What is a compression shirt?
A tight-fitting top made from stretch fabric such as polyester-spandex. It’s worn as a base layer under jerseys and pads, or on its own for training.
What fabric is used for compression shirts?
Usually polyester-spandex with 15–20% spandex for 4-way stretch. Nylon-spandex gives a softer, premium feel.
Can compression shirts be sublimated?
Yes, if the fabric is polyester-spandex. Sublimation prints into the fibres, so designs stretch without cracking. Nylon-spandex can’t be sublimated.
Should compression shirts be tight?
Yes. They should feel snug without restricting breathing or movement. Between sizes, choose the larger.
Do you make compression shirts for teams?
Yes. Teams order them as base layers in club colours to match their jerseys.
What is the minimum order for custom compression shirts?
20 pieces per order, with sizes mixed freely.
